Meet Dr. Khamsi

Dr. Babak Khamsi is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon in Southern California. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering at University of California Los Angeles, where he graduated with honors and was inducted in prestigious honor societies of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu, as well as Golden Key Honor Society.

After completing his undergraduate studies in engineering, he decided on a change of path to medicine, mostly due to the insistence of his grandmother, whom he had tremendous love and respect for. Dr. Khamsi attended SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School (formerly known as UMDNJ). There, his peers recognized his contributions with the Resident Teaching Award. He also had the honor of serving as the Administrative Chief Resident in the final year of his residency.

Following residency, he completed a combined neurosurgery/orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at UCLA under the mentorship of world-renowned spine surgeons.

He then started to practice in Riverside and Los Angeles counties, where he has been working and living since. A few years later, he went back to school part time and received his Health Care Master of Business Administration (HCMBA) from University of California, Irvine with the hope of gaining a better understanding of the non-medical side of healthcare. This further education has given him unique tools to help his patients and advocate for them against bureaucracy and insurance companies. He has dedicated his service to Southern California as well as abroad, having traveled multiple times to Guadalajara, Mexico in order to perform complex reconstructive surgeries on underserved children with severe spinal deformities.

Dr. Khamsi has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and books, and remains active in research and academics. He is currently serving as clinical faculty at University of California, Riverside School of Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) as well as the North American Spine Society (NASS).
