Meet Dr. Yen
Bio Summary
Dr. Daniel Yen was born in Pasadena, California. During his youth, he grew up in Chinatown, became a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers in 1988, and was an active member of First Chinese Baptist Church. He attended Downtown Business Magnet High School where he had the opportunity to be a student intern at Bank of America in the loss claims department. The job entailed filing photocopies of processed checks, where the most interesting case was finding out someone was stealing money from a business by writing checks to multiple accounts with similar names. He later attended Santa Monica College for his first two years of undergrad where he studied stage acting and developed an appreciation for jazz. After SMC, he transferred to San Francisco State University where he earned a minor in Asian American Studies, which covered the experience of early Asian immigrants in America. Dr. Yen’s paternal grandfather was one of many Chinese immigrants to have arrived at Angel’s Island Immigration Station in 1930 as his port of entry into America.
While living in San Francisco, Dr. Yen was introduced to a chiropractic college by a chiropractor, who focused on establishing structural changes, making functional improvements, and corrective spinal care by using Gonstead, Diversified, SOT blocks, Extremity Adjusting, and massage therapy techniques. Dr. Yen also briefly worked as a chiropractic assistant for a sports medicine-based chiropractor who was a QME in Downtown San Francisco near the Embarcadero/Financial district. Following his graduation, Dr. Yen was recruited by a member of a chiropractic professional fraternity to promote chiropractic as a brand-new healthcare profession in India for two years.
Upon his return to the US, he worked five years in a non-profit serving adults with developmental disabilities through job coaching and living assistance in Pasadena. Dr. Yen began his chiropractic practice in San Gabriel before relocating to Las Vegas, where he then became a Certified Impairment Rating Specialist in 2013. He has been providing personal injury care since 2014. In 2021, he became certified in Dry Needling therapy, a technique that identifies and treats trigger points with the use of a thin needle inserted into the affected muscle tissue to elicit a twitching response. A trial of dry needling may provide useful objective information to a pain management specialist who is preparing their patient for recommended injections. Dr. Yen has been able to use the dry needling approach to either provide an alternative treatment to injections, or to help prepare patients who may still need to see a pain specialist.
